In June and July, in a very particular spot in the Discovery Islands just off of both Vancouver Island and the mainland of Vancouver, there are a handful of days where massive tides cause a feeding frenzy that locals refer to as the “Eagle Show”.
Departing from Campbell River on Vancouver Island, we will head up Discovery Passage on a falling tide and keep a good look out for bears foraging on the beaches. We will keep a sharp eye out for Orca, Humpbacks, Dolphin and Porpoise, as well.
Timing is critical because for just a few hours, on only a handful of days each year, the tide runs extra fast causing migrating fish (Hake) to get pushed up from the depths below so fast that they cannot survive. This results in an all-you-can-eat buffet that attracts Bald Eagles (300 to 500 have been counted at 1 time) in numbers that can sometimes number in the hundreds! Sea Lions, Seals, and many other migratory and resident birds also take full advantage of this bounty, resulting in a 360-degree feeding frenzy!
Jordan Blackstone
Picture yourself surrounded by hundreds of majestic bald eagles, the Eagles of Jimmy Judd swoop down to feed on hake fish floating on the surface. With their razor-sharp talons and keen eyesight, these impressive birds of prey display their incredible hunting prowess before your very eyes. The sound of their wings flapping in the wind is like music to your ears, as you marvel at their strength, agility, and grace.
The second half of the tour will see us work our way back to the south towards Campbell River with a focus on whales, orca and spring bears foraging at low tide. All whale watching boats share sighting information, and as we weave our way through the islands back to the south, we will have opportunities to view these magnificent whales without feeling rushed.
Whether you are a nature lover or simply appreciate the beauty of the world around us, this is an experience that you will never forget. Come and witness this awe-inspiring spectacle for yourself, and discover a new appreciation for the wonders of the natural world.

ITINERARY
JUNE 23RD -27TH, 2026
Eagles of Jimmy Judd itinerary
Each day includes 8 hours on the boat photography. Unlike crowded tour boats, this one is designed for photographers: move freely, try multiple shooting positions, and rest in the cabin without missing the action. We will go rain or shine – our boat is covered, heated and has a bathroom onboard.
Day 1 (June 23rd) – Arrive at Campbell River Airport – We will pick up and deliver you to our hotel in the heart of Campbell River.
Once you’re settled, we’ll make a grocery run to pick up what you need for breakfast. For dinner, you have a choice of eating at local restaurants or preparing something in your hotel room.
We will have a Welcome dinner, that night at the hotel, to introduce ourselves and layout the next day’s itinerary.
Day 2 (June 24th) – Early start – 7:30 am. We’ll meet in the lobby of the hotel and head over to the marina to board the boat. The trip is approximately 1 ½ hours to Jimmy Judd Island. We may possibly see other wildlife along the way.
We will have a mid-day break for lunch (which is provided) either on the boat or nearby beach – lunch with an ocean view and fresh air.
The second half of the day will be filled with finding other birds in the area, whales, dolphins, sea lions and possibly bears.
Back to the marina for 3:30 pm.
Day 3 (June 25th) – Our day will start at 8:30 am, following the same layout as Day 2
Day 4 (June 26th) – You get to sleep in a bit as our tour will start at 9:30 am.
Day 5 (June 27th) – Last day – 10 am start, returning at approximately 6 pm. Time to head home.
