INDIA- TIGER SAFARI
Join wildlife photographer Anu Marwah on this bucket list tour as we travel to India to explore its diverse and exciting wildlife habitat.
We’ll begin in Kaziranga National Park situated in the floodplains of river Brahmaputra, best known for its three big mammals, Indian Rhinoceros, Wild Water Buffalo and Asian Elephant. Kaziranga is regarded as one of the finest wildlife refuges in the world. The park’s contribution in saving the Indian one-horned rhinoceros from the brink of extinction at the turn of the 20th century to harboring the single largest population of this species is a spectacular conservation achievement.
Declared as a tiger reserve in 2006, holding the highest density of tigers in the world. The park also harbors significant populations of other threatened species including tigers, elephants, wild water buffalo and bears, gibbon as well as aquatic species like the Ganges River dolphin. It’s also an important area for migratory birds.
During out time in Kaziranga we will take an excursion to the Gibbon Sanctuary, which is an isolated protected area of evergreen forest. The sanctuary has a rich biodiversity and is home to the only apes in India, the western Hoolock Gibbon as well as the only nocturnal primate found in the northeast Indian states, the Bengal slow loris. Other primates include the Stump-Tailed Macaque, Northern Pig-Tailed Macaque, Eastern Assamese Macaque, Rhesus Macaque, and Capped Langur.
We then move on to Bandhavgarh National Park in Madhya Pradesh, India. The Parks landscape varies between steep ridges, forest and open meadows. Famed as the land of tigers, this is one of the best places to visit if you want to spot the Royal Bengal Tiger. The park has a large breeding population of leopards, and various species of deer as well.
